The Ohio State University woods, University farm. A large defective beech tree which was girdled in 1948. The trunk is still standing after 13 years but natural reproduction of sugar maple, white ash, wild black cherry and other hardwoods has become established under the area formerly occupied by the beech "wolf" tree.
