dc.description Scotch pine - showing "extra terminal whorl" which developed on current years. Stem from buds which broke dormancy early. Notice natural bud set on the short stems. Central bud usually remains dormant, although not apparently injured (as by shoot moth). Not previously sheared. When this phenomenon occurs laterals of the same whorl (to right) also are affected. Natural elongation of the 1955 stem growth is not noticeably reduced. Izaak Walton Forest 3-0 (1953). Item #5611A
