By 1890, as reported in the 'Sandusky Weekly Register,' Ruggles Grove had a "bathing beach, which is one of the finest along the lake [Erie]. A large and perfectly equipped bath-house has been constructed, which affords every convenience for this most healthful and invigorating sport [swimming]."
