Built in Toronto, Ontario, in 1910, the steel shallow hull steamer "Rapids Prince" ran the rapids of the St. Lawrence River between Prescott and Montreal, Quebec. Planks fastened to the hull underwater served to minimize any damage if the steamer were to hit a rock in the rapids. The "Rapids Prince" was still operational in 1948.
