Ship number 96172 was built in Philadelphia in 1892 and christened the "Hartford." She was sold to the federal government and renamed the "U.S.Q.M. Terry" in 1898. About three years later, she became a Great Lakes ship named for her new owner, "Charles H. Hackley."
