dc.description The "City of Duluth" was built in 1874 at Marine City, Michigan. The wooden ship carried both passengers and freight out of ports on both Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. On January 28, 1898, the "City of Duluth" ran aground on a sand bar at the entrance of the St. Joseph, Michigan harbor and was destroyed. Her crew of 41 was rescued.
