dc.description The "American Eagle" was one of the ferries which transported people and stores to and from the Erie Islands. When this photograph was taken in July 1901, Rev. Henry Cooke wrote in the Gibraltar Record that "the old 'American Eagle' has seen its last days in these waters...She lies embedded in the mud just off one of the beaches, waiting for those who have purchased her to take her away."
