Description:
The Thomas W. Palmer was built at Wyandotte, Michigan in 1889. She was wrecked in a collision off Stanard Rock May 10, 1905. Standard Rock lies about 50 miles north of Marquette, Michigan in Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay. Now the site of a lighthouse constructed in 1882, the mile-long reef was first charted by Captain Charles C. Stanard as he sailed the American Fur Company's John Jacob Astor in 1835. The Astor was the first American-made ship on Lake Superior.
