dc.description The "Irene" was just one of several flying boats designed by aviator Weldon B. Cooke at Sandusky, Ohio. During the latter part of 1913, Cooke began work on a flying boat with a wingspan of 44 feet. Like many of the pioneer aviators, Cooke was plagued with financial problems. Only by way of flying exhibitions was he able to finance his company.
