Description:
This view shows Tony Jannus landing his Benoist Flying Boat amid swimmers on the Cedar Point beach in 1914. Jannus' split with Benoist made barnstorming more profitable for him. Like Benoist, Jannus wanted to experiment with and design airplanes. However, the costs were prohibitive. Like many pioneer aviators, Jannus and Benoist were seriously undercapitalized. Exhibitions barely provided the funds for costly experiments, maintenance, and design alterations.
