dc.description Rev. Henry Cooke sits at the desk in the Cooke Castle library finishing his Gibraltar Record entries for the July visit of 1910. The first records were kept by patriarch Jay Cooke, but gradually his son Rev. Henry Cooke took over as "Scribe, Historian, and Artist," recording in words and images each summer visit. The library was located in the octagonal tower on the first floor of the castle. One of the bookcases housed a pull-down desk. Other features of the fifteen-room castle are a marble fireplace in the parlor and plaster ceiling decorations of corn and grapes where chandeliers once supported oil lamps. French doors open to the two porches.
