dc.description The configuration of the rock under Kelleys Island affects the island's shoreline. Known as the Cincinnati Arch, the bedrock west of the Bass Islands creates a cuesta or hogback shape with steep cliffs on the side toward the arch and gentle, shoaling coasts away from the arch. The outcroppings on the east side are broad and shelf-like.
