William Bruns' reasonably priced buildng lots made it possible for middle-class families to erect summer homes at Rye Beach Park. Families from Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, and Missouri were able to escape the summer heat and crowded cities by spending their summers along Lake Erie's shoreline.
