dc.description Ernst Niebergall photographed the Bay Bridge from the tender tower. Visible in the center at the very bottom of the photograph are the breaks on the rails that separate the rotating section of Bay Bridge from the causeway. The bridge was a swing bridge. The main support is in the center and forms a pivot point. The bridge could be opened to allow boats to pass.
