dc.description Geologists describe Kelleys Island as a "cuesta": a ridge with a sloping side (and a steep side). An uplift in the bedrock west of the Bass Islands, known as the Cincinnati Arch, gives the rock formations of western Lake Erie a regional dip toward the southeast.
