dc.description The Iron Chief, foreground, was part of a fleet of eight wooden ships. The Iron Chief, built in Detroit, Michigan in 1881, was the Iron fleet's flagship. The Iron Chief is towing the Iron State, background. The Iron State was christened G S. Hazard when she was built at Tonawanda, New York in 1874.
