Description:
Harry Atwood landing his Burgess Wright on the waters of Sandusky Bay during the summer of 1913. Atwood was first brought to Sandusky, Ohio, in 1911 by Dr. Charles H. Merz. Scheduled to make a dramatic landing on the courthouse lawn, he mistakenly landed at the Venice, Ohio, ball park. After closer inspection, he chose to land at the race track enclosure of the Erie County Fairgrounds.
