A building contractor viewing the rubble at the Fremont High School collapse speculated the collapse of two floors happened this way: the southwest corner pillar buckled, stripping the southeast corner pillar. The pillars on the north corners could not hold the load and dropped to the floors beneath. The southwest pillar lay under the debris, the southeast pillar stood, and the north pillars lay on the lower floor.
