Description:
The unusual flagpole next to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in Milan's village square is the mast of the schooner "Idaho." Built in Milan by A. J. Mowry and launched June 17, 1863, the "Idaho" could carry 17,000 bushels of grain to ports on the Great Lakes. In 1873 the "Idaho" was abandoned in the first, or lower, lock of the Milan Canal. The mast was removed and erected in the village square.
