Description:
In August 1902, Henry Cooke pasted a clipping from the "Cleveland Plain Dealer" newspaper headlined "On Isle of Gibraltar; Summer Home of Jay Cooke." The article's author referred to the Cooke sailboat "Gibraltar" as "a white winged pleasure boat...a graceful two master." Unfortunately, the graceful craft sank. Henry wrote, "She reposes gracefully beneath the waves this year [1902] and I fear her days of usefulness are over. She has been a splendid boat and we mourn for her sincerely." Cooke labeled this photograph "The Gibraltar As She Was."
