dc.description Harry Atwood throttles up his Burgess - Wright as he prepares to take off from the shoreline of Lake Erie. So impressed were Sandusky's city fathers with Atwood's flying feats and his plans for a flight school and an airplane factory that they financed a hangar and dock space at East Battery Park. Atwood promised to construct a revolutionary aircraft of his own design. But only a single flying boat, much like one produced by Glenn Curtiss, was ever produced.
