dc.description The Mataafa was christened the Pennsylvania when she was built at Lorain, Ohio in 1899. She was caught in a gale in Lake Superior November 28, 1905 and tossed on to the beach at Duluth, Minnesota. The damaged ship was salvaged and renamed. She hauled iron ore until 1946; then she was used to transport autos between Detroit and Cleveland.
