The Cookes spent much of their Gibraltar vacations aboard their boats. Henry wrote of the July 1901 visit: "Buttercup this year has been trying to overcome his tendency to seasickness....seems to be trying his best to get used to sailing. He will come to the edge of the dock and ask very plainly to be taken along. Then after we get out into the waves he will stand on the very edge of the boat...."
