Rev. Henry Cooke reported in the Gibraltar Record that on the evening of August 11, 1893, "he heard shouts of 'Help, Help!' from the Lake [Erie]." Fred Lohman, Joseph Bunting, and Thomas Kelly rowed out to investigate.
