dc.description Ice blocks were removed from the conveyor at the top of the icehouse. As the icehouse was filled, layer upon layer, the opening through which the ice entered was gradually closed with boards inserted into slots along the frame of the opening. Hay and sawdust were used to fill spaces between the boards.
