dc.description The large Atlantic steam shovel used to load broken stone into rail cars dwarfed the smaller Shay locomotives. In addition to building stone, the early quarries produced flux stone for the steel industry. To produce flux stone, Kelleys Island Lime & Transport Company built large stone crushing complexes on the island.
