Jay Cooke's daughter Laura Cooke Barney and her husband led a group of relatives and friends "one fair morning Sept. 18 for Rattlesnake Island....It was our first picnic...." We "lunched deliciously on the good picnic fare.... The crickets and grasshoppers were there by the thousands."
