dc.description "The Flag in Perry's Lookout was the first individual object...perceived upon Gibraltar [when the family arrived]....that night...a furious North Wester...tore the flag to pieces; but Gibraltar has never since Perry's memorable visit [Oliver Hazard Perry's naval Victory on Lake Erie, September 1813] been known to strike her flag and repairs soon made the grand old banner as good as new." Rev. Henry Cooke took this image as Clara Moorhead Cooke, Laura Cooke Barney, and Caroline Moorhead worked together on the front porch to repair Gibraltar Island's flag.
