This team is pulling sleds loaded with casks of wine from the island wineries to Sandusky, Ohio. Such scenes were a common sight in the nineteenth century. Each winter at least several hundred casks were routinely transported from Kelley's Island to Marblehead, Ohio, via the south passage, a distance of four miles. |
