dc.description Rev. Henry Cooke poses at Perry's Lookout on Gibraltar Island. During the War of 1812, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry is believed to have sheltered his fleet in the harbor just off South Bass Island and Gibraltar Island as he prepared to meet the British. It is believed that he used Gibraltar as a lookout. The high point on the island was named Lookout Point by the Cooke family. They placed a cannon on the historic spot to further commemorate Perry's Victory on Lake Erie.
