In this text we describe a detailed study on the influence of sentiment in coverings with the historical mortars of lime and stucco. As is wellknown, these materials have been used in construction for many centuries. Given its long use, its application was performed in a totally artisan form, very different to how it is carried out today, whereby modern technology is increasingly used through mechanical means. In artisan work, handcrafted work without machinery predominates. Hence the skill of the artisan is where the predominance lies. As an example we give the restoration of the Real Alcazar´s “Patio del Príncipe” of Seville, in which the utilization of the historical mortars of lime and stucco have been fully respected, manually applied in the same way as was done in those times when plastering was carried out on large continuous surfaces and on window frames, doorways, arches, cornices and decorative elements. The objective was to conserve those minute imperfections in the restoration which give artistic quality and singularity to this building in the search for authenticity in the project. As a conclusion of the study and practical application in this unique work, it has been observed how the traditional mortars of lime and stucco notably influence the quality of the restoration, and how the small artisan imperfections of the manual work draw attention to this building, thereby providing the same sensation as the building has always given, and underlining the coldness with which machines without spirit communicate in all artistic work.<br><br>Se entiende por sentimiento la huella con que se marca el trabajo realizado artesanalmente por la mano del hombre que aplica los materiales. En esas pequeñas imperfecciones queda plasmada la mano y el sentimiento que artesanalmente “a mano” ha elaborado un objeto. En ello queda grabada su alma, su ánimo. Si observamos detenidamente los antiguos ladrillos de un viejo edificio “hechos a mano”, podemos ver marcados los dedos, las huellas, de los que, en su día, hace muchos años, siglos, hicieron sin máquinas esos ladrillos. Una prenda, un bordado, hecho a mano, con sus pequeñísimas imperfecciones tiene un carácter mucho mayor que los elaborados a máquina. Una fotografía en color, a pesar de su perfección, se valora menos que esa misma imagen pintada por la mano de un artista. Un conjunto de edificios actuales de serie no tiene el mismo valor, ni el alma, ni la personalidad, de un edificio proyectado con exclusividad por un buen arquitecto<sup>1</sup>. En este texto exponemos un estudio pormenorizado de la influencia del sentimiento en los revestimientos con los antiguos morteros de cal y estuco. Ponemos como ejemplo la restauración que se ha hecho del Patio del Príncipe del Real Alcázar de Sevilla, en la que se ha respetado al máximo la utilización de los antiguos morteros de cal y estuco, aplicados manualmente, tal como se hizo en la época en que se construyó. Se aplicaron y se han vuelto a utilizar revestimientos continuos y terrajados en marcos de ventanas, portadas, arcos, cornisas y elementos decorativos. El haber restaurado este patio con técnicas artesanales le ha impregnado del espíritu de su primigenia construcción. |
