This paper presents the design and the execution of a structural strengthening induced by the partial deconstruction of the naves that contain the East bus garage of the Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona. The structure of the roof of the naves consisted of tied precast concrete arches spanning 38 m. The initial state of the structural system of the building and its specific conditions are described to establish the criteria to be considered in the design and execution process of the strengthening. Then, the design and execution of the strengthening needed to guarantee the stability of the roof structure and the main aspects related to the construction process are described. This intervention had a temporary character because the whole building should be deconstructed after a year term. So that, a strengthening that took advantage of the actual capacity of the existing structure was designed. It consisted of adding steel members which, interacting with the existing structure, configured a new structural system against horizontal actions. It was not necessary to strengthen any existing members neither to build new foundation elements.<br><br>El presente artículo tiene por objeto la descripción del diseño y la ejecución de un refuerzo estructural motivado por la deconstrucción parcial de las naves que albergaban las cocheras de Levante de los Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona. La cubierta de la nave es prefabricada a base de arcos atirantados de 38 m de luz libre. Se presenta el sistema constructivo y estructural del edificio en su estado inicial y se analizan los condicionantes específicos del caso estableciendo, a partir de todo ello, los criterios considerados para el diseño del refuerzo así como para el proceso de ejecución de la obra. Se describe el refuerzo diseñado, necesario para asegurar la estabilidad de la construcción durante y después de la deconstrucción, así como los aspectos más destacables del proceso de ejecución de las obras. La intervención presentaba un carácter provisional, ya que el edificio debía ser deconstruido totalmente en un plazo aproximado de un año. Por ello, se diseñó un refuerzo que aprovechaba al máximo la capacidad resistente de la estructura original, consistente en la adición de elementos metálicos que, conjuntamente con parte de la estructura existente, configuraban un nuevo sistema resistente ante acciones horizontales sin necesidad de reforzar ningún elemento original ni de construir ningún nuevo elemento de cimentación. |
