We assess the effect of omega-3 supplement during a period of intensified training on theinflammatory cytokine response TNFα in the elite paddler men. Materials and Methods: 16healthy; elite paddler male from the Iranian national Dragon boot team were randomly selectedto receive the placebo (mineral oil; n=6) or supplementation (n =10) with omega-3 in capsulesof 3.6 gr daily; (2400 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid and 1200 mg of docohexaenoic acid per day)for 10 days. before and after 48 h supplementation period blood samples (10 ml) were collectedthen separated the immune cells and cytokines production were measured. Results: Supplementsignificantly decreased the resting levels of TNFα In the supplemented group; while values inthe placebo group increased(P<0.05). Conclusion: Consumption of omega-3 supplement canreduce inflammation during intensified training.
