dc.description We discuss the main theoretical approaches for the phonon-assisted tunneling in double barrier resonant tunneling devices and introduce a quantum coherent treatment based on the mapping of the many-body problem into a higher dimensional one-body system. Conditions for a maximized phonon-emission are established.
