Highly significant differences were found among populations of common bean from northern Spain for agronomical traits and physical quality of pod and seed, except for seed yield.
Forty three varieties (30 local and five commercial) were clustered into four groups. The most important one is the group I which includes nine dry bean "Granja" varieties. This variety has excellent seed quality and high market value and could be one of the most interesting crop for this area.
The conservation of this valuable genetic material and the continuation of the prospecting on this area are convenient because these populations could be an important source of diversity for breeding programmes.
