The relation betwen science and technology is becoming narrower every day and their development has implications for economy and consequently, society, influencing the quality of life and working conditions of citizens. The leves of economic and scientific/technological development appear to be strongly associated, at least over the last thirty years. Several empirical studies have indefinied the indicators of economic or scientific and technological development which have a tendency to vary most significantly, according to countries and periods.
