At the North Dock on Kelleys Island, dump cars loaded crushed stone - graded and broken according to size - into bins until ships or barges docked for loading. This photograph shows three chutes lowered to funnel stone into waiting vessels. By the 1930s, the north and south loading docks on Kelleys Island were abandoned and all stone was dumped into freighters and barges from the elevated pier at the West Side Dock.-
