Description: Rev. Henry Cooke recorded the adventures of Gene, a guest on Gibraltar Island, who rowed out to visit the ship "Michigan," which lay at anchor in the bay off Gibraltar. Cooke's son Russell, who accompanied Gene, "was permitted to ascend the non-official stairway, but poor Gene was directed to tie his boat at the 'pole.'" Not wishing to swim back to the "non-official" stairway, Gene climbed a "rope ladder and struggled upon the slippery footway." Gene said little about his "experiences," but he called the "Michigan" an old tub."
