Description: Heinie Elfers, dressed up for Sunday, poses for photographer Ernst Niebergall with his famous "White Pony." The Elfers family ran a store on Kelleys Island. Father Frederick Elfers emigrated from Hanover, Germany, and settled on Kelleys Island in July 1861. He and his wife Sophia Koster Elfers, also from Hanover, Germany, had five children: Emma, Arnold, Nellie, Herbert, and Helen.
