Description: The West Side Dock on Kelleys Island was modified to a "pocket" structure in 1910. Limestone hauled via steam locomotive was stored in the dock's "pockets" - bins - until it could be loaded onto ships or barges. The "pocket" dock improved efficiency in loading and shipping cargoes of limestone. Kelleys Island Lime & Transport Company reached its peak tonnage in 1923 when nearly 577,000 tons of limestone were transported by 663 lake carriers.
