| Description: | One of the most beautiful and geologically interesting parts of the Oregon coast is in the vicinity of Cape Arago near Charleston, 10 miles west of Coos Bay. Three very fine state parks have been developed here. They are (from north to south): Sunset Bay, Shore Acres, and Cape Arago State Parks ... At all three parks, erosion of tilted and faulted sandstone beds of varying hardness has resulted in a peculiar rocky scenery that has no counterpart anywhere else on the Oregon coast. In addition to the rocks, fossils, and other geologic features, the area possesses a wide variety of plants and animals and an interesting historical background. |
