| dc.description | The present paper outlines the fact that the knowledge we have about plants and their uses is the result of contributions of the societies and cultures of all times. Today, remedies of vegetable origin constitute the basis of almost all medical systems to fight disease and to promote health. In the case of the modem scientific medicine, medicinal plants have constituted the fundamental part of its therapeutic arsenal from both quantitative and qualitative points of view. This paper also provides information en the milestones of the Materia medica from the Ancient Greek Medicine until the transition to experimental pharmacology. // El presente artículo plantea el tema de que el conocimiento que poseemos sobre las plantas y sus usos es el resultado de las aportaciones de sociedades y culturas de todos los tiempos. En la actualidad los remedios de origen vegetal constituyen la base de la casi totalidad de los sistemas médicos para hacer frente a la enfermedad y promocionar la salud. En el caso de la medicina científica moderna, las plantas medicinales han constituido la parte fundamental de su arsenal terapéutico tanto desde el punto de vista cuantitativo como cualitativo. En este trabajo también se da noticia de los principales hitos de la materia médica desde la medicina clásica griega hasta la transición de la materia médica a la farmacología experimental. | - |
