| Description: | In the last years, intermediate cities have recovered their leading role in scientific bibliography and in the strategies of territorial arrangement to promote a polycentric and more balanced territorial
development. However, only some of them have proved to have the necessary learning
ability to stimulate innovative initiatives and have them materialized out of an improvement of its competitive capacity and welfare. The article analyzes those processes on Getafe (South of Madrid), one of the most innovative and active cities in the metropolitan context. Once the theoretical context is introduced, the historical inheritance which the studied processes are founded on is described. The construction of the city project and its consequences, specially its productive
and economic evolution are analyzed. Finally, the paper analyzes the role of local actors, social networks and the institutional coordination that explain the success of the process. En los últimos años, las ciudades intermedias han alcanzado cierto protagonismo en la bibliografía científica y en las estrategias de ordenación, como medio para promover un desarrollo territorial policéntrico y más equilibrado. Sin embargo, sólo algunas han mostrado esa capacidad de aprendizaje necesaria para impulsar iniciativas innovadoras y materializarlas en una mejora de su capacidad competitiva y de la calidad de vida de su población. El artículo analiza esos procesos en Getafe, una de las ciudades más innovadoras y activas del sur de la aglomeración metropolitana de Madrid. Presentado el contexto teórico, se describen las herencias históricas que fundamentan el proceso estudiado. Se analiza la construcción del proyecto de ciudad y sus consecuencias, especialmente, su evolución económica y productiva. Se finaliza con una reflexión sobre los actores locales, las redes y la coordinación institucional que explican el éxito del proceso. Peer reviewed |
